On February 8, 2024 (the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month),ASEAN International Schoolorganized a New-Year Celebration Event for international students in China. Through laughter and cheers, the students enhanced their understanding of Chinese culture and traditional festivals, and spent a warm Chinese New Year.
Huang Gang, Deputy dean of ASEAN International School, first visited the student dormitories to send warmth and blessings to the students who stayed on campus during the holiday. After caring about the life and learning situation of the students during the winter vacation, Deputy dean Huang Gang and the international students jointly pasted Spring Festival couplets and blessings, dressed up their dormitories to welcome the arrival of the new year.
Subsequently, enter the cultural experience stage. In Classroom 707 of Yuanhu Campus, international students and teachers write the word "fu" together, cut window decorations, and experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture. In addition to writing the word "fu", the students also used brushes to write New Year greetings and blessings on red rice paper, fully demonstrating their love for Chinese calligraphy art.
The "highlight" of the activity is to make dumplings andYuanxiao(rice dumpling, filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour). Under the guidance of the teacher, students can experience the unique flavor of traditional Chinese cuisine through steps such as kneading noodles, rolling out noodles, adjusting fillings, and wrapping fillings. Although the students are all experiencing making dumplings for the first time, the shapes of the dumplings placed on the plates are different, but everyone's face is filled with the same smile. After tasting the handmade Chinese New Year food together, the students all liked it, and the activity came to a successful conclusion amidst the complex emotions of satisfaction and reluctance.
On the day of the event, it happened to be the birthday of Tajik student Tan Deming. He said that this was his first time experiencing the Chinese New Year and also his first birthday in China. This birthday was very meaningful and very happy.
Ayas from Russia said, "This kind of New Year's activity is very interesting. Not only did we experience the fun of making dumplings, but it also made us feel the warmth of home. I hope to have more opportunities to participate in such cultural experience activities in the future.".
