To support the Belt and Road Initiative, from 10 to 19 April, 2019, GTVTC organized the Belt and Road Chinese Culture Training Class which provides faculty and students from Satri Wat Absornsawan School, Thailand, with Chinese language and culture teaching, Double-Third Festival celebration, Guangxi folk culture experiencing, quality developing activities, voluntary services and other activities. The training class offered a good beginning for the recruitment of international students and promoted the Belt and Road kinship and friendship.
Lessons such as “Primary Chinese Listening & Speaking” “Traditional Chinese Culture” “Tai Chi” were provided for Thai students to learn basic Chinese language and culture. And activities such as paper cuttings, Zhuang costume designing and Tai Chi practicing helped them get close to traditional Chinese culture and Zhuang folk culture and interested in Chinese language and culture. Faculty of Road and Bridge Department, Automobile Department, Information Department and Management Department gave presentations about their department to Thai students and introduced their department’s features and strength, which promoted Thai faculty and students’ understanding of the transportation characteristic specialties of the College.
To deepen the communication between Chinese and Thai students, quality developing activities and Double-Third Festival celebration were held. By organizing activities such as bamboo dance, throwing embroidered balls, walking on stilts, hoop rolling, lion dance, making dumplings, writing calligraphy and performing Chinese and Thai song and dance, faculty and students from Thailand experienced Chinese folk culture personally, which promoted the friendship between faculty and students of China and Thailand. In addition to this, students also visited the Guangxi Anthropology Museum, Confucius Temple, the Convention and Exhibition Center and Nanning Science and Technology Museum. During the visit, they learned a lot about the history, culture and customs of Guangxi and its capital city Nanning from college staff’s introduction.
On 19 Apr, faculty and students from Satri Wat Absornsawan School returned to Thailand and 2019 the Belt and Road Chinese Culture Training Class concluded. While seeing off at the airport, they expressed their reluctance of leaving and gratitude for our warm reception and careful guidance. With a better understanding of Chinese broad, profound and brilliant culture, they wished to have more opportunities to visit and study here.
